In tests performed by AV-Test. It detected 81 percent of our inactive adware samples and all ten actively running adware samples, and it successfully removed the files and Registry entries of almost all of the active adware samples.

With spyware, however, Spyware Doctor spotted only 27 percent of our inactive banking-related spyware specimens and 43 percent of password-stealing spyware. Until the damn pop-ups started again. Betting sites, Porn sites, Work from home sites. Ok, Symantic Anti-virus is clearly not getting this stuff.

Installed it and it managed to find 17 different problems infecting hundreds of files! It would only detect, not remove, unless I bought it. This time PC Tools managed to clear the problem right up. While it was scanning — something that took a VERY long time on my machine — it was blocking all of the pop-ups itself until it could clear up the infected files. I worked at Symantec many years ago and really liked the organization so by default they got my business.

What blew me away even further was how difficult it was to get in touch with Symantec to get a refund on my useless software. What a PITA. I tried navigating through all of their menus and contact lists to no avail. I did finally track a number down and the person in India that I spoke with was very helpful and did refund my money, so I did at least get that back. Thanks for the clearer post!
